Charitable basketball game that benefits both a local charity and Philadelphia high school seniors sponsored by Philadelphia Organized Labor
How it Works
For the past 37 years, Philadelphia’s Organized Labor has been the driving force behind a charitable basketball game that benefits both a local charity and high school seniors. This longstanding tradition is made possible through the generosity of grand sponsors and sponsors for various event elements such as uniforms, cinch sacks, shooting shirts, water bottles, and towels.
Beyond showcasing athletic prowess, players are selected based on their exemplary character off the court. In recognition of their achievements, each player is awarded a post-graduation scholarship that can be utilized for further education, whether in college or pursuing a trade. This dual focus on sportsmanship and character development is a hallmark of the event.
Following the allocation of scholarships and covering necessary expenses, the surplus funds are directed towards supporting The Superhero Project and its mission. This structure ensures that the event has a lasting impact on both the players and the broader community.
Critical to the success of the All Star Labor Classic is the dedicated volunteer committee responsible for securing sponsors, as well as the numerous volunteers who handle the intricate logistics of the event. Their commitment and efforts underscore the community spirit that has sustained this charitable basketball game for nearly four decades, making it a beacon of support for education and community welfare.
Scholarships for High School Athletes
Every participating high school athlete receives a $500 scholarship to be used post graduation for college or trade school. The student does not have to play college basketball to be eligible, just play in our charity All Star Labor Classic game and have fun with their Senior peers. These students are top in their class, wonderful role models on and off the court and both Philadelphia’s Organized Labor and The Superhero Project are proud that they are such great representatives.
Charity Recipient
Philadelphia Building Trades is thrilled to continue their partnership with charity recipient The Superhero Project. Having the proceeds from 2025 All Star Labor Classic benefit their programs and families with children in the NICU.
